The original 24 x 36 oil on canvas was a commissioned work in 1994. Martin and Anita Robbins commissioned Dan Thornton to paint this 1840s scene of Nauvoo with the LDS Temple majestically standing on the hill overlooking the community located in the bend along the Mississippi River. Thornton's Nauvoo Temple painting was featured on the inside front cover of the May 1995 Ensign magazine. It was later published in several books and was printed on the Nauvoo Temple Open House brochure distributed throughout the American mid-west. Collectively, well over a million copies of this painting have been published and distributed in book, magazine, and brochure forms. 10x15-inch, open-edition prints were produced; a handful of these art prints are available for purchase. 860 signed and numbered, limited-edition lithographs, 19x28.5-inch image size were also printed on fine art paper in Edmonton, Canada. Some of these limited-edition prints are available for purchase -- in limited supply.
